Assistant professor with tenure at ISEG, Universidade de Lisboa and Researcher at Advance- Centre for Advanced Research in Management and CSG – Research in Social Sciences and Management, where she was President of the Fiscal committee. Maria João teaches the chairs of Corporate Governance, Corporate Finance and Accounting 1.

Currently, she is the coordinator of the PhD in Management program at ISEG, Universidade de Lisboa and is the former coordinator of the Undergraduate Degree in Finance.

The areas of research interest lie in the intersection of corporate governance, top management characteristics, diversity, and what the effects on business performance and survival. Maria João Holds a PhD in Corporate Finance from Imperial College Business School, London, UK; MBA in Management from ISEG, Technical University of Lisbon and a Undergraduate in Management from ISEG, Technical University of Lisbon.
